Barnaby’s Brewhouse is proud to announce that it has received gold awards for both its organic Dunkel and Green Tomato Saison beers in this year’s Taste of the West Awards. Its organic Pilsner was highly commended.
The products are all produced and bottled by hand on site at the brewery which is located on Riverford’s Hole Farm near Staverton in Devon. They are all brewed using spring water – which rises on the organic farmland – along with quality organic malted barley, organic hops and yeast which is propagated in-house on organic wort.
Barnaby’s does not use any finings or chemicals in its production process – it just relies on careful temperature controlled fermentation, lengthy conditioning and triple cold filtering to create the signature clean taste of its vegan-friendly range of beers.
The award winning beers:
The Dunkel – which was the only organic lager in the South West to achieve a gold award – is a rich but very well balanced dark lager, with hints of chocolate and coffee complementing the full malt flavour. It pairs exceptionally well with a range of foods such as strong cheeses, game, or bitter chocolate desserts.
The Green Tomato Saison is a very distinctive rustic beer with a profile that is light yet earth and spicy. Using tomatoes in the beer gives it freshness, a hint of sourness and a slightly wine-like quality. This means it pairs exceptionally well with a range of foods. For example, it is delicious with peppered steaks, Thai dishes, spicy sausages, creamy goats milk cheese. Originally brewed in conjunction with Riverford Organic Farmers for its box scheme, the brewery now plans to make this an annual special brew.
The highly commended organic Pilsner, with a delicate malt profile and subtle hopping, is our best seller. It was recently blind tested against a range of 30 other beers by Sharpham Vinyard for its café and shop. A panel of ten judges, including a sommelier, head wine maker and head chef, all gave it top marks and it is now one of their most popular beers.
From strength to strength..
2018 has been a year of considerable growth for Barnaby’s Brewhouse and these awards will help it to extend its customer base whilst staying true to its underlying values of being an eco-friendly, sustainable business.
